Two shows from Jiading District will compete in the 16th National Star Award Competition this year.
On December 25, 2012, the actors and actresses of the story-telling show “Fool Till End” were busy rehearsing at Anting Cultural Activity Center to make a final preparation for the recording of the program on January 5.
The youngest actress in the group is an eight-year-old girl You Qi, who is a grade two student. She rehearsed on Saturday mornings and week day evenings and did her homework afterwards.
“Rehearsing is not that hard, and I enjoy it very much as my mom always accompanies me,” You said. Her mom would sit at the rehearsal and make notes of what her daughter needed to do based on the director’s suggestions.
“The director lives in downtown Xuhui District, one actress lives in Jinshan District while You Qi is still at school, so it’s really not easy for us to get together for a rehearsal,” actor Huang Zhenliang said.
After rehearsal, the director would correct every motion and facial expression of each actor and actress until he is satisfied.
Director Lu Jun said the story-telling show of “Fool Till End” is an experimental form of telling a story with scenes. It is a 3D literature in Shanghai dialect.
Another show is an original work of music opera “Love and Steamed Buns.” It took the team nearly three years to create, promote and enter the final of the contest. It is the first original music opera created by residents in Nanxiang Town. All the actors and actresses are amateurs.
“Most of them come for rehearsal immediately after work or during weekends,” organizer Gao Yinhu said, “The 11-member crew is a team and everyone needs to be here for the rehearsals.”
