Government offices, companies and markets are getting back to work in Jiading, but everyone still has to take the virus seriously. Prevention work is continuing throughout the district. Here is the latest information on how to respond during the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.
Service center
Jiading Administration Service Center opened for business on January 31, but it’s recommended that residents deal with their affairs online while the epidemic continues.
Visitors are required to have their temperatures taken to make sure of their health.
“I feel more relieved seeing the measure,” said a resident surnamed Shi who had come to the center for property transfer registration.
To ensure safety, the service center has been fully disinfected. Some service windows are closed to encourage residents to handle their business online. Residents can subscribe to the “Shanghai Jiading” WeChat account.
At the service desk, a staff member was telling a resident surnamed Huang how to conduct affairs on the phone.
“I didn’t know I could do so many things through WeChat before. Now it is safer and more convenient for me to deal with the staff by just staying at home,” said Huang.
So far, more than 400 company-related services can be dealt with online.
It is better to postpone business during the epidemic if it is not an emergency, the staff suggest.
Residents can use online helpers including the Shanghai Jiading app, Shanghai Jiading WeChat account or Shanghai Jiading website.
Jiading Library
With Jiading Library closed since January 24, including its 24-hour self-service, residents are wondering about how to return the books they borrowed. They needn’t worry as the library has a new policy that readers don’t need to return books or pay any charges until the end of the epidemic. All exhibitions, lectures and other activities in the library have been suspended.
Gangxin Market
A new infrared thermography device has been installed at Gangxin Market in Waigang Town.
“Please wear a mask, take off your hat and stand inside the area,” a staff member at the market tells visitors as their temperatures are taken. It takes the device just 2 to 3 seconds to get a result so queuing time is short.
“The machine is faster and makes me feel safer walking inside the market,” said one resident surnamed Ma.
F1 racing
The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, which was due to be held in April in Jiading, has been canceled with a new date as yet undecided, organizer the FIA said.
Online resources
The Jiading Culture Cloud (www.whjd.sh.cn) provides a number of online programs for residents so they won’t feel bored at home.
Wan Yuexia, who lives in Jiading Town, was fond of going to the opera every month in the past. “Now with the free platform, I can enjoy traditional Chinese opera, especially huju and yueju (singing in Shanghai and Zhejiang dialects, respectively) at any time I want. I like it a lot,” said Wan.
“No matter if you are elderly, young, or children, you can find what you need in the cultural resources,” said Tian Tian, vice curator of Jiading Culture Cloud. “Although the building is closed, we will continue to provide a feast of culture for residents. Other art classes such as brush painting and calligraphy will be launched soon.”
Wearing a mask
Residents should wear a mask when going to busy areas or offices, taking public transport, taking elevators and visiting hospitals. It is not necessary to wear a mask when alone in an open area, riding a bicycle or driving a car alone. People should stay at least 1 meter apart from others.
Doctors suggest three points in reusing masks. First, only reuse a mask that was previously worn by yourself. Second, keep the mask in a clean package after use, in case of secondary pollution. Third, remember to change the mask after using it several times. Disposable masks are not washable.
Alcoholic cotton use
Alcoholic cotton is a common disinfectant for use at home, but there are several points to consider. When you use the alcohol, ensure there is good ventilation.
Spray the alcohol carefully in small amounts to prevent triggering a fire. Clean hands and wear household protective gloves, disposable latex gloves and masks before disinfecting at home.
Keeping rooms open or well ventilated is vitally important, at least twice a day. The ventilation time should be at least 30 minutes to allow the air to circulate, improve air flow and reduce the risk of disease transmission.
